DMCii acquired complete high resolution satellite imagery coverage of Italy on behalf of the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) for burn scar mapping, forestry and to monitor agricultural trends. The imagery is used to provide a detailed record of fire scars and land use and to monitor change on previous years. A priority for the project was accurate measurement of the extent of fires and their environmental impact.
The unique wide swath width and large area coverage provided by single DMC high resolution images makes mosaic production and image analysis at country level easier than with comparable imagery sets. DMCii coordinated imagery campaigns undertaken with the DMC result in rapid coverage and reduced image processing times.
