Super Typhoon Chaba

This week super Typhoon Chaba reached category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale.

The Ryukyu Islands of Japan were the first to feel the force of Typhoon Chaba as the storm tracked southwest of the Okinawa prefecture. Naha and Okinawa were spared the worst conditions; however Kumejima was pummelled by the damaging winds and heavy rains.

Flash Floods Inundate New South Wales, Australia


On 26th September the International Charter for Space and Major Disasters was activated for flooding in New South Wales, Australia. Heavy rains throughout September caused flash flooding along the Lachlan River. Residents have been evacuated from the towns of Forbes and Condobolin, while barricades have been put into place in an attempt to reduce the impact of the flooding.


Italy’s Devastating 6.2 Magnitude Earthquake

The 6.2 magnitude quake struck around 01:36 GMT, 100km northeast of Rome.

Three quarters of the historic town of Amatrice has been destroyed, with similar stories across various towns such as Accumoli and Pescara del Tronto. The current death toll is 241 but this could increase due to the number of people believed to still be trapped and buried under the rubble.
