Burn Scars Observed on Mount Vesuvius

On the 12th July, Mount Vesuvius experienced multiple fires which have scorched acres of surrounding woodland.

Large clouds of smoke blew over nearby towns and villages including Naples. A number of people were evacuated from their homes but thankfully no injuries or fatalities were reported.

The Soufrière Hills Volcano

The Soufrière Hills Volcano, also known as Chances Peak, is situated on the small Caribbean island of Montserrat, and until 1995 lay dormant for over 300 years. The complex stratovolcano began showing signs of activity on the 18th July 1995: eruption warning signs consisted of small earthquakes and smaller eruptions of dust and ash.
